Real Madrid confirmed defender Ferland Mendy underwent surgery for a recurring right thigh injury on Monday.
The operation, which was carried out in Lyon, went well, the club said. The player is expected to return within three to four months, a source told AFP.
There had been fears the 30-year-old Frenchman could be out for a year with the career-threatening issue which flared up again during a Spanish league match on May 3.
This was the fifth injury this season for the former Le Havre and Lyon player, who came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth system from 2004- to 2012.
Mendy earned 10 caps for France between 2018 and 2024.
