8 most bizarre moments of 2013
With the year coming to a close it's time we look back at some of the more interesting moments of 2013.
And by interesting we're not referring to winners or losers or best players.
This year end list is dedicated to the bizarre. The moments that left you scratching your head and wondering: what is happening?
1. Eden Hazard kicks a ball boy
Chelsea crashed out of the Carling Cup after falling to Swansea City, but the story from this one was Eden Hazard.
The Belgian star was desperate to move play on as Chelsea chased goals in the second leg of their semifinal, but Charlie Morgan, a ball boy with dreams of stardom, opted to derail his plans.
Hazard was sent off and Morgan became a star of sorts. The lord of time wasting called his shot before the game and came through. A teenager followed through with a promise. The world is changing.
2. Luis Suarez bites Branislav Ivanovic
Luis Suarez, widely known as an adamant fan of the vampire genre that continues to plague Hollywood, had bitten before.
The Cannibal of Ajax, yes that was his nickname during his Eredivisie days, took his talents to England and excelled on the pitch when he wasn't mired in controversy.
Unfortunately Suarez was back to his tabloid fodder ways when his blood lust got the better of him once again.
Suarez received a 10-match ban and was sentenced to watch the True Blood television series in a darkened room for 72 straight hours. Doctors believe he has been cured.
3. What the Hail?
Football has always been at the mercy of mother nature--domes are so North American.
Unfortunately that means playing in some adverse conditions. We've seen bad, but what happened during Galatasaray versus Juventus in Istanbul was truly remarkable.

The game was resumed the following day, but the field appeared to be in worse shape. Galatasaray would knockout Juventus and advance to the round of 16 thanks to Wesley Sneijder's late winner.
4. Jose Mourinho launches own cartoon show
‘Jose Mourinho and the Special Ones’ combines education and entertainment, serving as a Portuguese cartoon that caters to youth who have an interest in the beautiful game.
The back story: Jose spots a kid playing in a local match and decides to take him under his wing, helping him turn into the next star.
Unfortunately a clunky plot and extremely disconcerting graphics combined to create one of the more terrible cartoons in recent memory.
What is the extreme opposite of great? This is that.
5. Di Canio loses the plot
Expecting Paolo Di Canio to maintain sanity for longer than a three week period was asking a lot. This was the guy that banned ketchup from the Sunderland training ground.
But his actions following a 3-0 defeat at West Brom in late September were special, even for him.
Di Canio's post-game remarks combined personal insults with seemingly terrible advice. "The players need to release the rubbish from their brains. They have to have more confrontation, more anger with each other."
He was fired the next day and boy do we miss him.
6. Stefan Kiessling's ghost goal
A true goal scorer doesn't need to actually score to score.
Confused? Don't worry, we all were when Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling registered a ghost goal against Hoffenheim.
The German Football Association denied Hoffenheim's appeals and decided to not allow a replay of the game. For his part, Kiessling's crisis of conscious was short lived.
“I indeed considered to not accept that and talked to a few people about that,” Kiessling said. “But it is as it is. We were given those three points. It is a difficult situation.”
7. Watford stun Leicester in wild finish
This one wasn't so much bizarre as it was amazing.
Leicester forward Anthony Knockaert's egregious dive secured a penalty late, all but ending Watford's hopes of promotion to the Premier League.
Watford goalkeeper Manuel Almunia made a stunning double save, and then all hell broke loose.
Watford failed to close the deal at Wembley, but they'll always have this. My goodness.
8. David Luiz smiles for the camera
A May fixture between Chelsea and Manchester United is always a good one.
Rafael was shown red for tackling David Luiz late in the match. Intent and the ensuing melee conspired against the United defender. In any case, that’s some terrific acting from Luiz, Toys starring Robin Williams good.

Hopefully 2014 brings more of the zany antics we enjoyed this past year. It's just a game after all.
