David Luiz reveals that he was close to signing with Barcelona
Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has added some extra intrigue to Tuesday's Champions League match against Barcelona, saying that he nearly joined the Spanish club this summer before ultimately deciding on the French capital as his destination of choice.
The Brazilian, who was signed from Chelsea for a reported fee of £50 million ($81 million) this summer, told Spanish outlet AS that he could have easily been playing for the opposite side tonight at the Parc des Princes.
"It's true that they came to feel me out a few times and it looked so good," he said, via FOX Soccer.
"But eventually I realized that the team that really wanted me and bought me was PSG."
Depending on tonight's result, the versatile 27-year-old could soon find himself regretting his decision.
