Ancelotti says Real Madrid sold Angel Di Maria because 'he demanded a lot of money'
The war of words between Angel di Maria and Real Madrid continued Tuesday despite the fact both sides seem more than settled in the aftermath of his £59-million ($94 million) sale to Manchester United.
Plenty of questions were raised when the Spanish club decided to sell the Argentine star after a season in which he was arguably the team's most important player, helping them win a historic 10th Champions League title.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claimed di Maria wanted to leave, while the 26-year-old insisted that was never the case. Back and forth they went.
Now, manager Carlo Ancelotti has given his take on the situation.
"Di Maria demanded a lot of money and preferred to leave in order to earn more elsewhere. The club simply couldn't give him the money he wanted," Ancelotti told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
"There are times when a club has to say no. You cannot change the club's policy for just one player."
