Deportivo name former star Victor as new boss
Madrid, - Deportivo la Coruna confirmed the appointment of former midfielder Victor as the La Liga strugglers' new coach on Thursday.
"Victor Sanchez del Amo has this afternoon been named as the new coach of Real Club Deportivo," said a statement on the club's website.
"Victor will take charge of training this afternoon in Abegondo and be presented afterwards."
The Galicians sacked Victor Fernandez on Wednesday after they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to the league's bottom side Cordoba.
As a player Victor was part of the club's most successful era as they won their sole league title in 2000 and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2004.
However, Deportivo have been relegated on their last two campaigns in the top flight and are just two points above the relegation zone with eight games to go this season.
