Report: Real Madrid won't use purchase option in Javier Hernandez's contract
Remember when Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez finally got the chance to start in a meaningful fixture for Real Madrid and took full advantage by scoring a 90th-minute goal to book the club's place in the Champions League semifinals?
Well, we reportedly won't be seeing that again.
Real Madrid have decided against using the purchase option in Hernandez's contract and he'll therefore be returning to Manchester United, according to Spanish daily Marca.
Real Madrid had an option to buy Chicharito, who arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in September on a season-long loan from United, for a reported €10 million.
As the season wore on, it became more and more clear the Mexican forward's time at Real Madrid wouldn't go beyond the season. He only started seven La Liga fixtures and three Champions League matches, normally coming off the bench once the club had taken a comfortable lead versus a Spanish minnow.
One year remains on Hernandez's contract, and it will be interesting to see how he fits into United's plans for next season.
