It was reported Sunday that the transfer is valued at €35 million, and could rise to €40 million if certain requirements are met.
Kovacic tallied five goals and three assists while appearing in all but one of Inter's Serie A fixtures last season. At Real Madrid, he'll find himself competing for playing time in an already crowded midfield that includes compatriot Luka Modric as well as Toni Kroos, Isco, and James Rodriguez.
For Inter, Kovacic's departure marks the second significant exit from the club in one week after Xherdan Shaqiri joined Stoke City for a club-record fee of £12 million.
