Diego Godin renews contract with Atletico Madrid until 2019
The heart and soul of Atletico Madrid's backline has no plans to leave the Vicente Calderon.
Atleti announced Thursday that Diego Godin put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2019.

Since Godin joined Atleti in 2010, his presence at the back has guided the club to one unexpected La Liga title, one Copa del Rey crown, one Europa League triumph, and one Supercopa de Espana success. His knack for converting set pieces has also resulted in an impressive 18 goals through 212 appearances.
Simply put, there aren't many centre-backs in Europe who are capable of producing the types of performances Godin manufactures on a weekly basis.

Godin will be 33 years old in 2019, and while defenders typically lose a step around that age - especially in a league as competitive as La Liga - it wouldn't be surprising if he's still shutting down world-class forwards at that point.
