Keylor Navas' father: The press wants 'a Spaniard in goal at Real Madrid'
Freddy Navas, the father of Costa Rican 'keeper Keylor Navas, isn't afraid to say what many people are thinking regarding the situation between the posts at Real Madrid.
Following a surreal conclusion to the transfer saga involving David De Gea, whose move to his hometown club from Manchester United was aborted after the necessary paperwork wasn't filed in time, Navas will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu and will likely continue to feature as Real Madrid's first-choice shot-stopper.

It was reported that Navas, along with cash, would be sent to United in the monumental swap deal, and Freddy is under the impression that his son's nationality is the reason why Real Madrid is comfortable parting ways with one of planet's top 'keepers.
"They (the press) want a Spaniard in goal at Real Madrid and when they see a South American they either accept it or they don't," said Freddy, speaking on a sports radio show, according to AS. "They know he is the best but because of pride they cannot accept him."

Freddy also said that the "most important thing is to have stability" and that his son should push aside the "soap opera," before continuing by discussing how he felt when he saw supporters chanting his son's name during Real Madrid's 5-0 win versus Real Betis on Saturday - a fixture that saw Navas save a penalty shot in the second half.
"My skin was tingling and tears came to my eyes when I heard so many people shouting my son's name, in one of the most difficult crowds at one of the best clubs in the world," Freddy said. "He is a source of pride for all of Costa Rica."
Considering how hard it is to understand why Real Madrid's brain trust refuses to embrace a player that is as good as they come between the posts, Navas' father could very well be on the money.
