Real Madrid honours Cristiano Ronaldo for becoming club's top all-time scorer

Step aside, Raul.

A ceremony was held Friday for Cristiano Ronaldo to commemorate his tally of 324 goals for Real Madrid, a club record achieved by scoring twice in Los Blancos' Champions League victory at Malmo.

It was initially believed Ronaldo had equalled Raul's mark of 323 goals with the brace, but Real Madrid announced after the fixture he had in fact broken the club record, as the second goal marked his 324th since he arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The edit is the result of Ronaldo being credited for a goal that was believed to be scored by Pepe in 2010, when a free-kick of Ronaldo's took a deflection off his compatriot's back, according to multiple reports.

Among those in attendance for the ceremony, which kicked off with a screening of Ronaldo's best goals, were president Florentino Perez, Real Madrid's first team, the club's coaching staff, and members of its Board of Directors.

"This is a very exciting day for all Madrid fans," Perez said. "This week Cristiano became the leading goalscorer in the great history of Real Madrid, the greatest club in the world, winner of 10 European Cups.

"His effort, dedication and commitment have been clear to see in every training session and game. 324 goals in 308 games is something unrepeatable and it can only be understood as Cristiano's desire to constantly better himself, to never give up, and to give everything for this badge. All of the Madrid supporters love you, and really adore you. They know what you mean for this club. You are an example for those of us that love football."
