Nuno Espirito Santo confirms resignation as manager of Valencia
Nuno Espirito Santo has resigned as the manager of Spanish outfit Valencia.
The much-maligned Portuguese tactician confirmed his resignation following the club's 1-0 loss to Sevilla, after enduring months of fan backlash at the Estadio Mestalla. Nuno and club owner Peter Lim spoke about the resignation on the phone on Saturday morning, without the players being made aware prior to the match.
"Before the game I spoke with the president, with the owner, Peter Lim and we have spoke after the game. We are all in agreement that the situation is not good, we all want to do the best for the club," Nuno told reporters. "It’s for that reason that I have taken the decision to leave the club. It’s been an honour to coach the club. I want to thank all the players I have worked with, Peter Lim and the fans.”
Lim made an effort to keep Nuno but Marca reports that Nuno was firm in his decision. He left the postgame press conference at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium having answered only questions regarding the match.
Nuno not going to talk more about resignation. More details tomorrow. He wants to talk about Sevilla game now.
