Korda wins The Annika for 7th LPGA victory of season
Nelly Korda fired a 3-under 67 Sunday at The Annika to secure her seventh LPGA Tour victory of the season and first since May.
The LPGA Player of the Year beat out Jin Hee Im, Weiwei Zhang, and Charley Hull by three strokes thanks in part to a blistering back-nine run that saw her record five straight birdies.
Sunday's win marks Korda's third victory at the event in the last four years. She claimed the title in 2021 and 2022 when it was known as the Pelican Women's Championship.
Place | Player | Total to par | Round 4 score |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Nelly Korda | -14 | 67 |
T-2 | Jin Hee Im | -11 | 68 |
T-2 | Weiwei Zhang | -11 | 70 |
T-2 | Charley Hull | -11 | 71 |
T-5 | Linn Grant | -10 | 66 |
T-5 | Rose Zhang | -10 | 67 |
Korda won six times in seven starts earlier this year.
The 26-year-old is the first player to win seven tournaments in a single season since Yani Tseng in 2011 and the first American to do so since Beth Daniel in 1990.
Korda entered Sunday's action one stroke back of Hull for the lead.
She hadn't played since Sept. 22 at the Kroger Queen City Championship because of a minor neck injury.
"After taking some time off with an injury, it feels great to be back out here," Korda said, according to the Associated Press. "Nothing like being in the hunt, the adrenaline feeling on the back nine, and being in contention.
"I love it so much."
