Report: Winless Twins to add Murphy on minors deal

After beginning the season with an 0-8 record, the Minnesota Twins decided to reach out to the free-agent market for some help on Thursday.

The Twins have agreed to a minor-league deal with outfielder David Murphy, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports.

Murphy will head to Triple-A Rochester, but could reportedly get playing time in The Show soon, which could mean a potential demotion for Eddie Rosario or Byron Buxton, who've both struggled offensively to begin the season.

The 34-year-old Murphy entered 2016 with the Boston Red Sox, but exercised an opt-out clause in his contract to become a free agent when he found out he wouldn't make the club out of spring camp.

Murphy split 2015 between the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels, hitting .283/.318/.421 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs, while playing in both left and right field.

Over the course of 10 big-league seasons, the veteran owns a .274/.333/.432 slash line with 104 home runs and 472 RBIs.
