Blue Jays draft Dante Bichette's son in 2nd round

The Toronto Blue Jays have selected shortstop Bo Bichette, son of Dante Bichette, with the 66th selection of the 2016 MLB Draft.

His father was a four-time All-Star over a 14-year major-league career, and Bo's older brother Dante Jr. was the 51st overall pick in the 2011 draft by the New York Yankees.

Bichette is home-schooled, but plays at Lakewood High School, and has produced at the plate. His numbers are a little skewed, though, because he was issued so many intentional walks.

At the plate he's dangerous with a quick bat from the right side, and explosive bat speed with the ability to go yard. Defensively, it'll be tough for him to stay at shortstop given he isn't the swiftest afoot. But because his bat is so prevalent, he's the prototypical second baseman. From MLB Pipeline:

Over the summer, Bichette showed the ability to square up quality pitching and his raw power was on display when he won the Under Armour All-American Game Home Run Derby in Chicago. This spring, he was still hitting the long ball, but also was getting tied up on mid-range fastballs inside. While he doesn't have the same exact leg kick setup as his father and brother, there are a lot of moving parts to his swing which concerns some scouts.

The slot money the Blue Jays can play with is $978,600. If they pay him any more on his signing bonus, the team will be penalized.
