Massive 3-D Royals player stolen off billboard

This theft is literally off the wall.

A three-dimensional cutout of a Royals player leaping to make a catch on a roadside billboard was stolen right off the sign Wednesday night. The cutout in question stands 14 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds.

How the thief (or, more likely, thieves) managed to remove the giant player from the billboard is a mystery that's left both police and billboard company executives baffled.

"I thought it was a joke. I really did," Bob Fessler, vice president Missouri territory manager for billboard company Lamar, told FOX 4 Kansas City. "The thing's 14 feet tall, weighs about 150 pounds, and it's connected (to the billboard), it's all threaded to the board in four different spots."

Fessler said he wasn't sure how it could've been transported away from the scene, as its size would prevent it from fitting into the back of a pickup truck.

"I don't know how they would have hauled this off," he said. "I hope somebody sees it. However they got it out of here and we can figure that out."

Despite the display's $7,500 price tag, Fessler said there are currently no plans to offer reward money for its safe return.
