Bochy: Giants' interest in Lincecum rising
Free agent right-hander Tim Lincecum is two days away from putting on a big showcase in front of more than 20 teams, and his former employer will be in attendance with a peaked level of interest.
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed with reporters on Wednesday that his club's interest in the 31-year-old has risen since spring.
Bochy said the Giants are looking at Lincecum, whom he's spoken to twice, in a long-relief role, although an injury could change that.
The Giants were on a long list of teams expected to show up at Lincecum's showcase in Arizona on Friday, as reported by MLB Network's Jon Heyman, so the competition for the two-time Cy Young winner could be stiff.
Lincecum is seeking a starting job after recovering from hip surgery and recently had his fastball consistently sitting in the 90-91 mph range.
He made 15 starts for the Giants last season, posting a 4.13 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 76 1/3 innings of work.
Over nine years in the bigs, the four-time All-Star owns a record of 108-83 with a 3.61 ERA while striking out 9.3 hitters per nine innings.
