Frazier 'scared' after suffering gruesome injury

Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier said he was "scared" after needing five stitches to repair a busted lip suffered while unsuccessfully chasing a foul ball during the fourth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Texas Rangers.

"I actually did catch it - thought I did on the replay," Frazier told reporters after the game, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. "Then I ran into a guy and my momentum took me into the stands and right into the armrest. I felt my tongue go through my bottom lip. I never had that before. So I ran off as quick as I could. I knew there was a hole there."

Frazier attempted to track down Prince Fielder's foul pop-up when he dove headfirst over the left-field concrete wall and crashed hard into an empty seat. He immediately ran to the dugout with his glove covering his mouth before retiring to the dugout with members of the training staff.

White Sox pitcher Mat Latos said it looked a lot worse than it was.

"It kind of freaked me out the way he reacted," he said. "He could have broke his jaw."

Fortunately, Frazier emerged relatively fine after being diagnosed with a laceration to the lower lip. The two-time All-Star, who hit his third homer in four games - and 11th of the season - during the top half of the fourth, is listed as day to day.
