Keppinger claims phone was hijacked after controversial tweet

Jeff Keppinger, the former journeyman who played for seven teams throughout his meandering nine-year major-league career, claims it wasn't him who sent a (now deleted) racially loaded tweet from his account Wednesday morning.

Nearly four hours after that tweet was sent, the retired 36-year-old claimed someone had hijacked his phone:
Sorry Twitter world!!!!! That last tweet WAS NOT from me! Someone thought it would be funny to go through my phone and write on my Twitter

Keith Law, the ESPN prospect guru who often discusses politics and social issues on Twitter, was among those not buying Keppinger's explanation:
@JKeppinger just own it. There's no way someone grabbed or hacked your phone and tweeted THAT.
