Blue Jays' Darwin Barney: Plays big in place of Tulowitzki

Hitting eighth in the lineup, Barney went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and run scored in Saturday's thrilling win over the Red Sox.

Analysis:

In Tulowitzki's (quad) absence, it would seem Ryan Goins and Barney would likely platoon at shortstop, as they had been doing at second base prior to Devon Travis' return. On Saturday, though, with right-hander Rick Porcello on the mound, manager John Gibbons went with the right-handed Barney. It was just Barney's fifth start at the position in the last five seasons, but the decision paid off as he notched his first game with multiple extra-base hits since July of 2014.
