Watch: Castro's moonshot ends Odorizzi's no-hit bid
Starlin Castro was on the wrong end of a no-hitter as a member of the Chicago Cubs last season, and he wasn't about to let it happen again.
The New York Yankees second baseman said no to Jake Odorizzi's attempt at a no-no by destroying the right-hander's offering over the center-field wall in the seventh inning Sunday. It was the Yankees' lone hit on the day, and, as it turned out, the only one they needed to eke out a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Until Castro's swing, Odorizzi had been cruising. The 26-year-old allowed just one New York baserunner through 6 1/3 innings, and faced only the minimum before walking Brett Gardner and then surrendering Castro's homer. He struck out six over seven innings in a hard-luck loss.
The win was the Yankees' first in a nine-inning game while being held to one hit in more than a century.
