Baseballs are finding a lot of groins these days.
Baltimore Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph, Cleveland Indians catcher Yan Gomes, and Indians infielder Juan Uribe have each taken shots in their personal areas over the past two-plus weeks. Now the epidemic has reached the men in blue, as home plate umpire Dale Scott was hit hard by a Ryan Flaherty foul ball during Sunday's Orioles-Blue Jays contest.
Scott collapsed to the ground in intense pain, then left the game with assistance from an Orioles trainer and fellow umpire Bob Davidson, who took over behind home plate after a brief delay.
When Scott recovers, perhaps he should consider switching to a Kevlar cup, as Gomes decided to following his unpleasant experience.
