Phillies sign 2nd-rounder Gowdy for $3.5M

Phils Minors Report/Twitter

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed 42nd overall pick Kevin Gowdy for $3.5 million, which is $1,963,800 over his slot money, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

The news comes a day after the club signed first overall pick Mickey Moniak for $6.1 million, which was $2,915,000 under slot money. Because they saved money on Moniak's deal, they were able to allocate most of the remaining balance towards signing Gowdy.

Gowdy, a right-hander out of Santa Barbara High School, signed his bonus for what the ninth overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft is slotted to get. The slot for the 42nd pick is valued at $1,536,200.
