Royals' Kris Medlen: Will need one more rehab start in minors
Manager Ned Yost said Sunday that Medlen (shoulder) would require another rehab start in the minors before returning from the DL, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis:
Medlen pitched well in his first rehab start at Triple-A Omaha on Saturday, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk over 4.2 innings while striking out five batters. The 30-year-old was capped at 69 pitches in the outing, so the Royals likely want to see him log closer to 100 pitches in a game before they activate him from the DL. Medlen should have a spot waiting for him at the back end of the Royals' rotation when he's ultimately activated, likely in the first week of July.
