Watch: Torreyes takes horrible swing at pitchout
MLB.com
Yankees infielder Ronald Torreyes went to great lengths to protect baserunner Aaron Hicks during the fifth inning of Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers.
With Hicks taking off for second base, Torreyes inexplicably swung at a pitchout several feet off the plate and after it had already been caught by Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos.
The bizarre at-bat took an even worse turn after Hicks was thrown out easily by Chirinos, and Torreyes struck out on the very next pitch. To no surprise, Torreyes was pinch-hit for two innings later - by an injured Carlos Beltran.
