Happy Canada Day, Toronto Blue Jays.
Umpire Vic Carapazza decided to celebrate Canada's 149th birthday by tossing Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion after a dubious called third strike to end the first inning of their holiday matinee against the Cleveland Indians. Encarnacion expressed his displeasure with Carapazza's strike zone before getting the boot, and then angrily continued his argument while inadvertently bumping the umpire in the process.
At that point, manager John Gibbons took over the argument and proceeded to get himself ejected too after an animated display in favor of his slugger. It's the sixth time this season Gibbons has been tossed, a league-high among managers.
