Rajai Davis sets HR career high in half a season

The Cleveland Indians' improbable win streak has been fueled in part by Rajai Davis' unlikely power surge.

Davis continued his surprising season Saturday as the Indians played for their 15th win in a row, smashing a solo blast in the first inning to set a new career high with nine homers.

The veteran outfielder needed just 71 games to reach the mark this season, nearly half the games (142) it took him to hit eight homers in 2012 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He also homered eight times in each of his last two seasons with Detroit (134 games in 2014 and 112 games last year).

Davis' solo shot gave the Indians an early 1-0 lead over the Blue Jays, one day after the club set a franchise record with their 14th consecutive victory in Friday's 19-inning marathon. Entering Saturday, Davis was hitting .342/.333/.526 with one homer and four doubles during the streak.
