Tigers suspend, demote Gose for skipping MiLB game

The Detroit Tigers came down hard on Anthony Gose after he failed to show up for a Triple-A game following a fight with his manager last week.

Gose was placed on the team's suspended list on July 10, where he remained for three days. After being reinstated on Wednesday, the center fielder was demoted to Double-A Erie, the team announced.

"After collectively evaluating the situation in Toledo, we spoke with Anthony and emphasized our organization's expectations of him," Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement. "Most importantly, Anthony's transfer to Erie is a move to give him a fresh start to his overall performance as he works his way back to Detroit."

Gose, who had been playing with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, got in a fight with manager Lloyd McClendon during the first game of a doubleheader on July 9 and was subsequently sent home by the manager. His locker was empty after the doubleheader's completion, and he didn't show up at the ballpark for the Mud Hens' July 10 contest.

The Tigers sent Gose to Toledo on May 15 after he hit .209/.287/.341 with two home runs and zero stolen bases over 30 games. He slashed just .185/.255/.266 with a homer, no stolen bases, and 75 strikeouts over 50 games with the Mud Hens.
