Tigers investigating Gose after minors no-show
The Detroit Tigers' front office will spend the All-Star break weighing any potential discipline for Anthony Gose after the outfielder failed to show up to his minor-league game Sunday.
Gose was sent home during the first game of a doubleheader Saturday following a confrontation with Triple-A Toledo manager Lloyd McClendon and responded by not arriving the following day.
"We are investigating/evaluating the situation," Tigers VP of player development David Littlefield told George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. "Al (Avila), David (Chadd), Lloyd (McClendon), and myself will talk during the break and decide where we go from here."
During the third inning of Game 1 on Saturday, McClendon and Gose were involved in an animated argument in the dugout. Gose was removed from the game and kicked out of the dugout. McClendon failed to comment on the exchange.
Littlefield told Sipple that he tried calling Gose over the weekend, but has yet to speak to him.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus acknowledged he was aware of the altercation but believes the situation will be resolved.
"Any time a player reacts that way to a manager is concerning," Ausmus said, according to ESPN's Katie Strang. "But it's certainly not anything that can't be handled or gotten past."
The 25-year-old has 372 games of major-league experience over five seasons, but found himself back in the minors this season after hitting .209/.287/.341 with 38 strikeouts in 30 games with the Tigers. Gose's production with Toledo has been a cause for concern, as he's slashing .185/.255/.266 with one homer and 75 strikeouts in 50 games.
