Report: Mets front-runner to get Reds' Bruce

All-Star Jay Bruce appears to be on the move, finally, as the Cincinnati Reds will reportedly trade their power-hitting outfielder to a National League team Monday morning, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.

The report notes the Reds' trade partner isn't the Dodgers, who, along with the Mets, Indians, Rangers, and Giants, have been in pursuit of the 29-year-old right fielder. Bruce, who has a no-trade clause, has long been rumored to be moved prior to Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.

The Mets look to be a strong possibility for Bruce, who's been pursued by the defending National League champions since they tried to acquire him at last year's deadline. Multiple reports indicated Monday morning that talks were ongoing between the Reds and Mets, with rivals clubs indicating New York was a front-runner to land Bruce.

Amid intensifying talks, Bruce was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup against the San Diego Padres. Manager Bryan Price told reporters the move was made to give Bruce a day off.

Provided the Dodgers are indeed out on Bruce, it's possible they'll refocus their efforts back to other reportedly available outfielders, such as Josh Reddick. On Friday night, there were reports that Bruce was Hollywood bound as part of a three-team blockbuster that never materialized.

The Indians are believed to be pursuing Bruce, as well, especially on the heels of Sunday's failed trade for Jonathan Lucroy, the Milwaukee Brewers catcher who exercised his no-trade clause and vetoed a deal to Cleveland. Incidentally, the Indians are among the clubs Bruce can block a trade to as well.
