Gray leaves start with forearm soreness

Oakland Athletics right-hander Sonny Gray departed his start Saturday after five innings with right extensor muscle soreness.
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said following the game that Gray will be reevaluated over the next few days, and that the problem is at the top of the pitcher's forearm.
"Hopefully it's minor," Melvin told reporters.
"Looked like he was throwing the ball pretty well," he added. "He didn't come to me, he was trying to get some heat on it and go back out there. When he talked to the trainer about it, then we felt like we need to get him out of there."
Gray had allowed two runs off five hits in the outing, striking out two Chicago Cubs before Liam Hendriks took over to start the sixth.
"I was trying to go back out there for the sixth," Gray said. "I told them after the fourth I had a little bit of an issue come up and when I went back out for the fifth it kind of felt the same.
"They kind of decided to shut it down there. I lobbied to go back out there. It obviously wasn't going to happen."
The 26-year-old has dealt with injury problems already this season, missing 15 days in late-May, early-June with a strained right trapezius.
Entering his start, Gray was 5-10 with a 5.84 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 111 innings.
