Watch: Teixeira breaks down talking about mom
Mark Teixeira reflected on his major-league career Friday as he confirmed plans to retire after the 2016 season, and no topic initiated more emotion during the teary-eyed presser than when the New York Yankees first baseman discussed his late mother Margy.
"As some of you know, my mom passed away in December," a visibly emotional Teixeira told reporters. "I miss her everyday and I just thank her for being a great mom and for teaching me everything. I miss you mom, thank you."
Drafted fifth overall in 2001 by the Texas Rangers, the Georgia native has had a decorated 14-year career, amassing the fifth-most homers among all-time switch-hitters, while earning three All-Star selections, five Gold Glove awards, and a World Series title in 2009.
