Big Papi makes Red Sox history with 1,000th XBH
David Ortiz continued his historic farewell season Friday with another big-number milestone.
One day after setting the single-season MLB record for extra-base hits by a player 40 years of age or older, the retiring slugger notched the 1,000th extra-base hit of his Red Sox career with a solo homer during the seventh inning against the Diamondbacks.
The 414-foot blast off Arizona's Zack Godley - Ortiz's 26th of the season - joined Big Papi with Carl Yastrzemski (1,157) and Ted Williams (1,117) as the only players in franchise history with 1,000 extra-base hits as a member of the Red Sox.
Ortiz, who's slugging a league-leading .622 with an MLB-best 1.026 OPS, now has 471 career homers with the Red Sox to go along with 513 doubles and 16 triples.
