Marlins' David Phelps: Shuts down Pirates over six frames in Saturday victory

Phelps (7-6) fired six scoreless innings of two-hit ball against the Pirates in Saturday's 3-1 victory, walking two and striking out a season-high nine.

Analysis:

The veteran righty was outstanding Saturday, with almost a quarter of his 59 strikes coming on swings-and-misses. The 29-year-old has been solid since assuming a starting role earlier in August, and has 17 whiffs over his last 11.1 innings. Phelps will look to extend his current two-start winning streak when he takes on the Padres next Friday.
