Sanchez's historic run secures 2nd straight POW

New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has been named American League Player of the Week after continuing to carry the club on his back, hitting .522/.607/.1.304 with seven runs scored, five home runs, and nine RBIs.
It's the second consecutive Player of the Week honor for the 23-year-old Dominican, making him the first rookie in MLB history to earn the award in back-to-back weeks.
Over 22 games, Sanchez became the fastest player in MLB history to record 11 home runs, while slashing .406/.468/.893 with 21 RBIs, earning him "The Great Sanbino" moniker.
Joining Sanchez is New York Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who was named the National League Player of the Week.
The 30-year-old veteran had a big week for the Metropolitans, hitting .545/.583/1.136 with three home runs, eight RBIs, and five runs scored.
Unfortunately, Cabrera was forced to leave Sunday's game with a sore left knee - the same area that cost him three weeks of action earlier this season.
Overall, Cabrera is slashing .271/.321/.446 with 16 home runs and 42 RBIs during his first year with the Mets.
