Rangers' Carlos Gomez: Officially called up

Gomez was called up Thursday and will bat eighth and play left field against the Indians, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

Gomez is expected to be the club's everyday left fielder, and he'll take over in that capacity right away. The 30-year-old had an extremely disappointing campaign with the Astros earlier this season, slashing just .210/.272/.322 in 85 games, but he'll look to turn his season around starting Thursday against Josh Tomlin.
