Jeffress to stay on restricted list during DWI investigation
Texas Rangers reliever Jeremy Jeffress will remain on the MLB restricted list while he's being investigated for a DWI arrest earlier this week, Rangers assistant general manger Thad Levine told reporters Saturday.
Jeffress was pulled over early Friday morning by Dallas police after changing lanes without signaling and almost hitting a car. According to police, he told officers that he'd had three to four cups of Hennessy cognac mixed with Coca-Cola and later failed a sobriety test before urinating on himself.
He was expected to be activated from the restricted list Saturday before the Rangers decided to prevent him from returning until the investigation is finished.
Jeffress was suspended twice in the minors for violating the league's drug policy. He was handed a 50-game ban in 2007 after testing positive for marijuana and served a 100-game suspension in 2009 for testing positive a third time.
Acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers at the non-waiver trade deadline, the 28-year-old owns a 4.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in nine innings with the Rangers.
