Ross leaves final home game in tears amid standing ovation
Grandpa Rossy eventually got his standing ovation.
After Wrigley Field began to give veteran Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross a final salute during the sixth inning of the last home game of his career, it abruptly turned into a chorus of boos after the St. Louis Cardinals decided to intentionally walk him.
Leave it up to good-natured manager Joe Maddon to correct the issue, though. An inning later, Maddon allowed Ross to catch the first two outs of the inning before walking out to the mound and asking him to come out of the game.

The 39-year-old heard a roar from the crowd as he walked off the field with tears in his eyes. After graciously hugging his teammates, Ross returned to the field to give Wrigley a curtain call before departing to the team's clubhouse.
Ross, a popular clubhouse presence during his 15 years in the big leagues, also homered in the contest to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.
