Ortiz's clutch HR hurts Blue Jays' playoff chances
David Ortiz knows when to hit home runs.
Though the Boston Red Sox have already clinched a postseason spot, the Toronto Blue Jays are fighting for a wild-card position.
With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Ortiz stepped up to the plate with a runner on, and in true Big Papi fashion, broke the tie with a no-doubter over the right-field wall, giving Boston a 5-3 lead.
Upon returning to the dugout, Ortiz, who is retiring at season's end, came back out of the dugout for a curtain call.
The other American League teams vying for a playoff spot are the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Seattle Mariners.
The Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 8-1 on Friday night, while the Tigers won 6-2 over the Atlanta Braves. The Mariners, meanwhile, carry an early 4-0 lead over the Oakland Athletics.
