Sosa, A-Rod among former players to donate to Clinton campaign
A number of prominent baseball figures have come forward with donations to presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, a list that includes former baseball greats Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, and Curt Schilling.
Sosa and Rodriguez were two of the highest donors in terms of sports figures to have contributed toward Clinton's campaign, pledging a combined $8,100, according to Jon Solomon of CBS Sports. Joining Sosa and A-Rod were Boston Red Sox president Sam Kennedy, chairman Tom Werner, and prospect Jagger Rusconi, who each donated $2,700. Umpire Dale Scott also donated $72 to Clinton's campaign.
Along with Schilling, who donated $250 to Trump's campaign, ex-New York Yankees general manager Gene Michael ($800), former Mets GM Davey Johnson ($250), and current assistant GM of the Los Angeles Angels Marcel Lachemann ($80) were among the baseball figures to pledge for Trump's cause.
Despite the GOP candidate receiving the support of many current and former athletes, a list that includes Tom Brady, Mike Tyson, Clay Buchholz, Johnny Damon and Schilling, Trump has amassed $210 million, which drastically falls behind Clinton's campaign of $530 million, as of Aug. 31.
