LaTroy Hawkins calls Joe West the 'worst umpire'
Enjoying the comforts of retirement, LaTroy Hawkins can speak his mind.
While watching Game 6 of the World Series, the former reliever took to Twitter to express his frustration with home-plate umpire Joe West's strike zone.
West, who made his MLB debut in 1976, has drawn the ire of plenty of players and fans throughout his career. Despite that criticism, however, the veteran umpire is working his sixth World Series.
Hawkins isn't the first former big-league pitcher to sound off on West recently. Ex-Chicago Cubs right-hander Kerry Wood vented about West in mid-September and said he hoped that West wouldn't be umpiring in the postseason.
With the Cubs facing elimination in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday in Cleveland, it's likely Wood is thrilled that West has home-plate duties.
