Marlins' Koehler votes to honor ex-teammate Fernandez
Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports
Tom Koehler will vote on Tuesday because Jose Fernandez can't.
The Miami Marlins' right-hander will go to the polls to honor his former teammate. Fernandez - who was born in Cuba - managed to make it to America despite being jailed three times in his homeland. He would've been officially eligible to vote in the U.S. for the first time this year.
Of course, that won't happen, because the 24-year-old was killed in a boating accident in September.
I am voting today because I had a friend who fought really hard for the chance to vote. This would have been his first chance. #jdf16

Koehler, 30, was teammates with Fernandez for four years in the majors.
