Diamondbacks' Socrates Brito: Undergoes successful surgery to repair broken hamate bone

Brito had successful surgery Tuesday to repair a broken right hamate bone, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

Brito apparently sustained the injury preparing for Winter League and is expected to miss the next 12-13 weeks as he undergoes rehab. The 24-year-old outfielder is a career .288 hitter in the minors but has yet to improve his career MLB average (.211) much above the Mendoza line. The outfielder did play in 21 games for the Diamondbacks after September last season, which leaves optimism that he could assume a larger role on the team during the 2017 campaign.
