Twitter rips apart Padres' latest uniform redesign
They may be bland, but they've sure elicited some colorful reactions.
On Tuesday, the San Diego Padres revealed changes to their home and road uniforms for the 2017 season. Gone are the blue-and-yellow home whites that debuted just over a year ago, in favor of a more understated blue-and-white scheme. The new road grays bring back the "San Diego" PowerPoint-style font worn from 2004-11.
Suffice to say, the changes did not go over well with Padres fans, who weren't all that happy to begin with after having watched their team slog through its sixth consecutive losing season.
The team's new look was widely criticized and even mocked on Twitter for being, among other things, too boring.
The Padres' quest for the most boring uniforms in sports is complete! Good job. pic.twitter.com/vdlqglruV4

Nice uniforms, Padres. In other news, this year they'll be serving porridge and raw cauliflower at Petco Park.

Amazing that the Padres, as an organization, discussed uniform adjustments and came up with this incredibly bland product. All bad.

@Padres the home and road are absolutely terrible. Couldn't be more generic and nondescript. Blue and white we're not the dodgers.

At least one person made sure to note the similarities between the new road jersey and the one San Diego wore several years ago.
@sdutSanders How is that road uni "new?" The patch? pic.twitter.com/kOvWulSVII

Perhaps the biggest outcry from fans was over the Padres not returning to their colorful roots of brown and yellow, a scheme that continues to be tightly associated with the franchise.
This = 🚫 history. 🚫 identity. All-Star sales prove that this is WRONG. Would be happy to consult. @Padres @WaynePartello #bringbackthebrown https://t.co/lFvShMQJej

@Padres epic fail! For the love of everything that is holy, bring back the brown for all uniforms! Another wasted opportunity.

Padres keep changing, but their road uniform remains the most boring in MLB. Just go all-in on brown, guys. It's not that complicated. https://t.co/tVhmyI8OP6

If the @Padres did this, people would go nuts. Alas. pic.twitter.com/GjUVenrt6I

Don't fret too much if you're on team brown, though.
The Padres did announce that their popular brown alternate jerseys will be returning in 2017, along with last year's redesigned blue camouflage uniform.
