To say Shohei Otani was good this season would be an understatement.

The Japanese sensation was so far ahead of everyone else in the Nippon Professional Baseball League that he was named the league's top pitcher and designated hitter, according to Jason Coskrey of the Japan Times.

As a pitcher, Otani finished the season 10-4 with a 1.86 ERA over 140 innings of work, striking out 174 batters in the process. As a hitter, he slashed .322/.416/.588 with 22 home runs and 18 doubles.

Voting wasn't even close. He earned 111 votes as a pitcher, beating out the second-place finisher, who had 69. At DH, he was awarded 190 votes to the second-place finisher's 47.

What makes the feat even more impressive is that he's only 22 years old.

Over the course of the summer, Otani turned heads in other ways, winning the home run derby, while also throwing the hardest pitch in league history, clocked at 101.9 mph.

It's unclear when he plans on moving on over to Major League Baseball, but when he eventually does, it'll be interesting to see what kind of money value a team puts on him.

eyond all of that, he could've done more, but missed several weeks due to a blister.
