Quintana will pitch for Colombia at WBC
When Team Colombia travels to the World Baseball Classic in March to open the event against the heavily favored U.S squad, they could have one of MLB's best pitchers on the mound.
Chicago White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana will pitch for his native Colombia, according to his agent, who told Jon Morosi of FOX Sports his client may start the March 10 opener.
The WBC status of the 27-year-old Quintana could change as his name has been mentioned in trade rumors and a potential new team could voice an opinion about him pitching in the event, Morosi adds.
Since arriving in the big leagues in 2012, Quintana has never posted an ERA above 4.00 and has pitched four consecutive seasons of 200-plus innings.
He was an All-Star for the first time in 2016 en route to a 13-12 record with a 3.20 ERA - good for seventh in the American League - in 208 innings, which included 181 strikeouts.
The 2017 WBC will be the Colombian national team's first appearance in the event.
