Encarnacion, Cano on preliminary Dominican Republic WBC roster
The Dominican Republic will have no shortage of offensive firepower when it tries to defend its title at the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Edwin Encarnacion, Robinson Cano, Starling Marte, Nelson Cruz, Welington Castillo, Adrian Beltre, Manny Machado, Jose Reyes, and Gregory Polanco are some of the names listed on the team's 50-man preliminary roster, according to Victor Baez of DeportivApp.
New York Yankees closer Dellin Betances has already committed to the team, as well as St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez. New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia is also listed on the preliminary roster, though his status is uncertain as he could be facing suspension from MLB for his involvement in a domestic violence incident.
The Dominican Republic opens play in Pool C in Miami on March 9 against Colombia. The United States and Canada are also in the group.
