Report: Aaron Sanchez could pitch for Mexico at WBC
Team Mexico may have itself a strong reinforcement for the World Baseball Classic.
Toronto Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez could join the national side if Mexico manages to progress past the opening group stage, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Sanchez would add considerable firepower to a Mexico rotation, which only features two bona fide starters in Jaime Garcia and Miguel Gonzalez. In 30 starts last season for the Blue Jays, the 24-year-old right-hander posted a 3.00 ERA while winning 88.2 percent of his starts and allowing just 0.7 home runs per nine innings, all top marks in the American League.
If Sanchez does suit up for Mexico, he wouldn't be the only Blue Jays pitcher on the team. Closer Roberto Osuna has also committed to playing in the tournament.
Mexico will be part of Pool D along with Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Italy, which it opens the competition against on March 9.
