Report: Blue Jays among teams showing strong interest in Breslow

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

After impressing teams at his personal pitching showcase, Craig Breslow appears to be a hot commodity on the open market.

The 36-year-old is drawing strong interest from a handful of teams including the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, and Minnesota Twins, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Other teams in on Breslow include the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. Rosenthal notes Breslow will likely sign with a team once Boone Logan and Jerry Blevins - two relievers looking for multi-year deals - find homes.

The Blue Jays appear to have the biggest need for a reliever and have been linked to both Logan and Blevins this offseason. The club was also among the many teams that attended Breslow's showcase. Additionally, the Mets have been in search for upgrades in the bullpen after discussing a potential trade earlier in the offseason involving Curtis Granderson and Baltimore Orioles reliever Brad Brach.

Breslow pitched in only 15 games last year with the Marlins, but has reportedly changed his delivery, leading to an uptick in velocity. The lefty unveiled a new motion at his showcase in which he lowered his arm angle - similar to how a sidearm reliever would throw - and has added a two-seam pitch that tails on the batter.

A veteran reliever of 11 years in the majors, Breslow had a string of success pitching for the Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks from 2012-2013, combining for a 2.27 ERA and an 8-2 record in 124 games.
