Barry Zito makes Billboard charts with debut EP

Barry Zito appears to be doing well in retirement.

The former major league pitcher recently released his first album, "No Secrets," which sold 1,000 copies in its first week, Daniel Mano of The Mercury News reports, citing Nielsen ratings.

Those sales put Zito's album on the Billboard charts at No. 15 in the Americana/Folk category, No. 18 in Heatseekers albums, and No. 39 among Country album sales, according to Mano.

"When you're performing for an audience, you're really singing to give people an emotional experience," Zito told Xander Zellner of Billboard of his transition to music. "But when you're playing baseball, if there's 50,000 people watching or two people, I really don't care because I'm still in this competition and in battle with somebody. So, it's not as much about the fans when you're on the field competing. But when you're performing, it's all about the fans."

Although Zito isn't the first big-leaguer to make the Billboard charts, joining current Cincinnati Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo and former New York Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams, he is the first player to have won a Cy Young during his career to do so.
