Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Tweaking delivery, approach
Cashner is focusing on extending his delivery and using his sinker and off-speed pitches more frequently, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Analysis:
The Rangers are trying to salvage the once promising right-hander. The 6-foot-6 hurler failed to follow through much on his delivery last season because he was suffering from neck issues. Also, he threw his changeup only 6.3 percent of the time, per BrooksBaseball.net, a career low. He'll need to diversify his offerings to survive in the friendliest hitter's park that he's called home in his career. Despite his 5.25 ERA last year, Cashner, 30, still has a makeup that could succeed with some tinkering -- maybe not at the levels of his 2.55 ERA in 2014, but something resembling a useful pitcher in deep mixed fantasy leagues.
